"Paris est une fête" as described by Ernest Hemingway's memoir is definitely a Moveable Feast! I just ordered my copy! I cannot wait to read it! :D
I'm a big BIG big dreamer with everything in life and sometimes I get lost in my own fantasies with what's real and not and so sometimes I feel in this moment I am living in a dream and if I am, I hope I never wake up!
I spend most of my days at work with the coolest people! David keeps me laughing all the time with stories about hot guys and sings and dances to Lady Gaga all day long or he'll jokingly repeat this phrase the French teach young kids when they first learn English. He'll say, "Where is Ryan?" and then Marion goes, "Ryan is in the kitchen!" And they'll bust out laughing haha...they said this phrase has become really popular in France. He makes any dull day seem exciting! And I love Marion! She's the coolest, she's so helpful with giving me so many opportunities to learn and encourages me everyday. Then there's Veronique and Elisa who are like mother figures with us girls. They constantly check to see if we are ok and kisses us all the time as if we're their kids. And my partner in crime Miina! Love her too! We always tell each other stories about stuff going on in our lives and it's nice to work together at the boutique!
Here's David and Miina playing dress up after a hard day's work. Miina is trying on a Vera Wang 12,650 euro dress that we just sold!
Didn't do much Friday night besides catch up with friends on the phone after going to this little Alsace wine fair at the square by the Louvre. I had to work Saturday, but it was cool. I was able to help out with some fittings and Marion called me over to see the client try on the dress I helped alter and got great feedback, which was really exciting! The lady wanted me to do one more thing to it and came back to pick it up. :)
That day, Marion and Elisa wanted me to try on this Vera Wang wedding dress that needed to be altered for a client. I of course said sure! When else am I gonna get the opportunity to be draped in such luxury?! The dress was soooo beautiful and in my size! I wanted to stay in it forever haha
Saturday night I hung out with Alex (Alexandre) again. He had just come back from dinner with his family outside of Paris and told me to meet him downstairs in front of our building. When I got downstairs to open the gate, I saw him running towards me telling me that he had quickly changed from what he was wearing earlier since it got colder. We had a really good time going to this student med school bar near our neighborhood and then strolling Paris at night. :) He said every time he tried to reach me, I wasn't home and that he had to buy a phone card to call my mobile since I had a UK # haha..I thought that was cute, but now I have a french number so people here can call me now finally!
Today, I didn't do too much. I was going to go to another museum, but I got kinda lazy and wanted to just relax. I just did a lot of cleaning during the day since Michel was coming home later today. Then I went to get some banh mi's that were soooo yummy! I couldn't decide which one I wanted so I got all 3! I got a regular Vietnamese special one, a fried pork one, and a beef one. They are the best banh mi's I've had!
I had some time to kill before Michel came home so I decided to go to the movies by myself. :) Looks like I wasn't the only one! I looked around me and there were a lot of people going to the movies by themselves too! Oh and I only had to pay 4.20 euros for the movie with my student id! I wish the movies were that cheap in the States! I went to see Minuit à Paris (Midnight in Paris) by Woody Allen.
I thought it was really nice! Definitely like a post card movie as described by David...with all the beautiful views of Paris. It made me fall in love with Paris all over again and appreciate all the beauty Paris has to offer. ***if you don't want me to spoil what the movie is about then please stop reading!*** I totally identified with the main character in the movie, which was played by Owen Wilson. He wanted to move to Paris and didn't care if he would be poor doing it and also had a nostalgic old soul that wanted to relive his life in Paris in the 1920s. He also didn't mind walking in the rain in Paris and thought it made the city even more beautiful! I couldn't agree more to all of this! I have always loved the fashion of the 1920s with the flapper dresses and head pieces! (you can see some of the cool costumes in the movie too) and also with the rain in Paris, it just makes the city that much more romantic! It has been raining a lot in Paris lately, but you'll still find people kissing in the street rain or shine and you can't help but say "awww" haha This movie inspired me to appreciate all the amazing artists, writers, and songwriters that came to Paris to live and be inspired! And like Ernest Hemingway once said, "If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast." There was also a line in the movie where Marion Cotillard's character said she couldn't decide if Paris is more beautiful by day or night. I've explored Paris both day and night in these past few weeks and it really is difficult to say! Paris is such a beautiful city by day with all the gardens, Eiffel tower, Arc de Triumph, the Louvre, the cafes, and just everything! And then there is the beautiful side of Paris by night with all the lights lighting up the city and the romance you see all around you. You can't help but be swept up with it all!
This movie opened my eyes into a new light and really made me want to imagine what life was like in Paris back then with all these talented people. I wish I could go back in time like Owen Wilson did in the movie and be able to talk to the likes of Ernest Hemingway, F.Scott Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, Picasso, Gertrude Stein, Salvador Dali, Man Ray, T.S. Eliot, and more! Would be so cool to sit down at a cafe and pick their brains! I can't wait to get my Ernest Hemingway book in the mail and go to one of the public gardens to read or perhaps sit outside in a cafe sipping a cappuccino. :)
When Michel came home we met up with his friend Triet and went to get some pho! I was craving pho this week, but waited til Michel came back since I knew he'd want to go! haha He said since the last time he saw me, my French vocabulary improved! Woo hoo! :)
Another weekend over and back to work tomorrow! But I get Wednesday off, which is the start of all the big sales in Paris!!! I can't wait to go shopping since I haven't really done any yet! It's gonna be crazy, but hopefully I'll find some good deals. I'll try to wake up early and hit the shops! Michel invited me to some wine and cheese party after, which will be fun since I love wine and cheese! I'm also gonna take Michel out to dinner this week too for all he's done for me, not sure where yet, but for sure some place yummy! Should be a good week I hope!
Bonne nuit! Bisous Bisous! oxox :)
