Today was pretty uneventful so instead I'm going to write about some observations from the week I've been here. You know that expression, "If the walls could talk?" Well they sure do here! The walls are super thin so I can hear everything and I mean EVERYTHING! Down to the guy in the apartment above me peeing and even pooping! (no not Alexander, he lives on the other side haha) But I guess I shouldn't complain because I'm sure my neighbors are annoyed with me keeping them up with my sneezing and coughing 24/7 these past few days. I think once I stop, they'll probably be wondering if I'm dead since I've been sounding so sick! But with the walls here being so thin, I find myself whispering or tip toeing around and even trying to be courteous by peeing quietly haha.
The water here makes my hair feel weird...it feels like there's a left over film, which makes me rethink drinking the tap water, but I'm sure it's fine. Whenever I turn the tv on, I usually have it on the music channel which I love because it has music and videos from the US and Europe and I love Euro music!
You really gotta be careful wherever you walk in the city. There is dog poop and bird poop everywhere! It's too bad they don't make it a law to pick up after your pet in such a beautiful city. I was going to warn this guy as he was pulling his car into this parking spot that he was about to roll over a pile of poop, but I didn't know how to say it in French so I just let it be. C'est la vie! :/
There were soooo many tourists today! The weather was really nice, but it got really hot as the day went on. As I went to work in the morning on the metro, I sat in front of a teenage couple that were overly pda and it made me want to regurgitate my breakfast, but I guess it was cute seeing them "so in love." Wherever you are in this world, you'll always find people playing instruments on the train for money...Paris is no different.
When I get into work, Veronique always greets me with a kiss on each cheek...typical French greeting. I would describe her as a very "cool" woman with her Chanel glasses and Valentino bag, always nicely put together. David was tired from partying the night before, but he had a packed day of fittings and there were a few issues we had to deal with and he says always the issues are with clients that don't live in Paris, so it makes dealing with the issue that much harder especially when the client's wedding is just a few weeks away! He was also telling me that he feels so lucky because all his clients are very cute! He says Elisa can have the not so cute ones haha
I've always thought it would be fun to be in the wedding industry. I used to want to be a wedding planner (one of the many fields I've contemplated on pursuing.) It is really satisfying and nice to see the brides so excited when we give them their wedding dress after it's been tailored to fit them perfectly. Today, I was helping this beautiful bride to be, who was with her mother and sister to pick up her dress. She was carrying shopping bags from Chanel and Brooks Brothers...must be nice to be loaded! Anyhoo..she was so excited to bring her dress home! You couldn't help, but share in her happiness!
As I was observing Marion some more, I asked her if there are shops that carry cheaper wedding dresses for people who couldn't afford dresses at Metal Flaque and she said yes. There are stores that are like supermarkets, where they are filled with tons for women to choose from. Marion reminds me of Amelie (character in the French movie played by Audrey Tautou). She's really nice and helpful in teaching me and answering any questions I ask. :)
There were some really wealthy Chinese ladies that came in to try on some cocktail and evening dresses. Apparently they moved to Paris from China and it made me think of these Chinese TVB dramas I used to watch. I wonder what they do, or rather what their husbands do as I'm sure they are just lucky housewives in Paris now all carrying Louis Vuitton bags. Even the eldest woman who looked like such a cute lil' grannie was dressed up in her pearls and carrying a Louis Vuitton bag too.
I work right near Japanese town it seems. There are a bunch of sushi and Japanese noodle restaurants in the area. They even have this big Japanese book store that reminded me of my favorite Japanese bookstore in NYC (Kinokuniya). Here's a photo of the NYC one:
I walked around the area for lunch looking to sit at a cafe, but they were way overpriced because of the location and the tourist season. So I ended up going to this smaller cafe and ordered a salad and pasta meal (It came with a cute lil' salad dressing bottle! I love cute lil' things!) and ended up eating at Starbucks. I know I know, I am here in Paris and I'm sure there are way better coffee places, but no where I can really get stuff to go. So I ended up getting my java chip frappuccino and ate there quickly before I had to head back to work. At least I didn't go to the McDonald's which is across the street!
I went home to nap and wait for my friend JB to arrive, but I hadn't heard from him and started to worry and I didn't have a number to reach him. He finally got in touch with me after a horrible ordeal of dealing with being in a car accident. He's fine so that's good, but now everyone is too tired to go out plus it's thundering and lightening out and raining so I guess I'm gonna call it an early night again and rest up! Tomorrow will hopefully be a fun day of exploring with JB and my new friend Francie! :) I learned a new phrase in French today at work and it's: "etre belle c'est etre soi-meme", which means "to be beautiful is to be yourself." And on that note, Bonne nuit! Bisous Bisous! oxox
