Eat, Pray, Love

I really feel like I'm on my very own Eat, Pray, Love journey here in Paris and loving every minute of it!

Saturday, I went to Les Arts de Decoratfis during my lunch break real quick to the library side to just check it out. I'll have to go back in July when the fashion exhibit with Hussein Chulayan will be open. But I was really excited to see such a wide variety of Fashion books in the library!

Then I walked to the Jardin de Tuileries and sat by the fountain to relax and soak in some sun. It was really nice to just relax there and people watch. There were little kids renting these boats and playing with them in the water. Really cute!

When I went back to work, the jewelry designer "Boobi" came by the boutique and gave us each rings! I was so excited!

David had went to the musical "Hairspray" the night before so he kept singing it all day long. He is such a funny guy! The musical was in French, but there were some songs that were sung in English and a mix of the 2 languages too. He said he liked it a lot!

Marion told me next week she'll let me use the sewing machine to see if I can do more complicated projects and also to start cutting, which will make me really nervous! I always get nervous when cutting fabric! But she said not to worry and she'll help me. :)

That night, I just went to get dinner in Chinatown again at this Vietnamese and Laos restaurant called Huong Lan. Michel had recommended it and it was definitely a great choice! I didn't know what to order so I asked the waiter for some recommendations and he said the duck was their best dish so I got that and the tri-color drink! Everything was AMAZING...best duck ever!!!

Then afterwards, the owner gave me a shot on the house and proceeded to chase after me with his number when I left the restaurant! haha

Sunday was a really good day! I thought I was supposed to hang with my neighbor, but I didn't hear from him just yet and didn't want to sit around waiting so I woke up early and went to the flea market outside my apartment for some lunch. I ended up getting a fried chicken drumstick and a beignet. A nice mix of salty and sweet! :)

After, I went to the Yves St. Laurent Foundation, which was really cool. He was definitely an amazing designer, who apprenticed with Christian Dior before he had his own line. I can still see the influence he has on fashion today. A lot of the designs they showcased (unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take pics inside) are still being used as inspiration for designers today. I saw a lot of jumpsuits and tuxedo "smoking" suits that are relevant today too.

Unfortunately, the Costume Fashion Galleria is still temporarily closed. :( I wonder when it'll open back up! I'd love to check it out too!

So instead, I went to the Palais de Tokyo Museum, which to be honest I didn't really get haha. There were some random objects and videos in these white rooms and that was about it. It kinda reminded me of the Boston ICA.

The Museum of Modern Art was right next door too, but it was closed so I didn't end up going. The day was still kinda early so I decided to go check out Angelina, which Francie told me about. She said she heard they have the most amazing hot chocolate there and she was right! There was a really long line, but it was worth the wait. I was seated at this table and it had some fashion magazines for me to read too! I read the inside of the menu and it said that Coco Chanel and other famous French people would come here for their meetings too! So I couldn't help, but imagine what that was like back in the day. The tea room inside was so glamourous and definitely Parisian. I went all out and ordered this Assorted Fromage plate, then I got this delicious chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut ice cream and of course their speciality the hot chocolate, which was really sweet and rich.

Oh on my way to Angelina, I found this really yummy cookie and candy shop on the same street. It's called La Cure Gourmande. I was only going to pick a few cookies, but everything looked good so I got almost 1 of everything!

I was SOOOOO full and couldn't eat anymore after I pretty much gorged myself on all this amazing food! So I started to head home and ran into this break dancing and rollerblading tag game at the square near the Louvre. I thought it was really cool because of the mix of people there. There were people of all races, gender and age and a crowd of tourists watching of course!

I was so exhausted from food coma when I got home, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a note slipped under my door when I walked into the apartment. It was from my neighbor Alexandre! He said he had stopped by, but that I wasn't home and told me to meet him at this public garden area (Jardin de Plants) a few metro stops from our apartment. I took a quick power nap and then went to meet him. He met me at the metro stop and then gave me a tour of Paris on Rive Gauche (the left side of the river). He said he thought this side was a lot more interesting than the other side. He showed me where he was earlier when he was waiting for me, which was at the Mosque de Paris. It's supposed to be this really nice Church in Paris that has a garden and cafe next to it. Apparently, he frequents there a lot to read. Then he showed me where Ernest Hemingway used to live and told me about all this history of Paris and famous authors and politicians, etc. I was really impressed he knew so much! It was cool seeing other parts of Paris from a person from there and not just the touristy parts because there are so many hidden gems that are just as beautiful and interesting! Even Michel and Jacqueline had told me there were so many hidden alley ways that are always great to stumble across randomly. You just really have to explore and keep your eyes wide open to everything around you!

He showed me the rest of the area and then we ended up at the Jardin de Luxembourg, which was realllllllly beautiful! But it started to rain so we went for cover under all the trees that filled the park. We just walked under them around the park and talked about our lives and got to know one another better. Alexandre goes to the West of France most of the weekends because he loves sailing and is actually a sailing instructor there too.

On the way to meeting his friend at this pub near by, he showed me where the Pantheon was too.

I met his friend Olivier who was really cool too. They were both saying my French was good and that I didn't sound like I had an accent! Yeah!!!!! :) Hopefully it'll get even better! I was still full so I just ordered a mojito. Then before the night ended, Alexandre wanted to get a nutella crepe at this really popular place with a long line. I just had a bite of it and it was soooo good! It was funny as we were ordering the crepe, the guy making it made a nice comment about me to Alexandre and told him not to tell me, but Alexandre didn't hear right and ended up telling me and then the guy's like, I told you not to tell her! haha But we all just laughed about it. Alexandre and Olivier were telling me that one of these days they were going to take me to this South Western French restaurant since I told them how much I love to eat haha..they said this place was really good and had huge portions! lol

I was telling them I went to this After Work party and they said they hadn't gone to one in awhile, but they remembered this one time an After Work party was held at this Aquarium, by Trocadero. They said it was awesome because you'd get so drunk and you'd see all these sharks and fish all around you. They had to stop having the parties there because people would end up getting too drunk and pouring alcohol in the tank or peeing in there! Crazy!!!

Today, I went to the Paris Bridal Fair at Porte de Versailles with Lillian and Veronique from the boutique. It was really cool! Lillian mainly went there to buy lingerie for the shop to be worn under wedding dresses. The vendors would serve us water, champagne and cupcakes! I felt so spoiled! Lillian said she felt bad since right now it isn't really buying season, which is usually Sept/Oct or Feb/March so I can't go to more exciting events. Her and Veronique are going to Milan though next weekend to go to the showrooms for Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, David Fielden, Jenny Packham etc. I wish I could go! :(

One thing I did notice that I didn't like were the old gross men that could be my grandfather!!!!! They look so nice and innocent, but they are dirtier than anything! They are the ones to be careful of and not the young ones I am warned about! I met 2 this weekend that really grossed me out. They just come up to me and ask me if I want to go get coffee, but I say no and then one of them did this disgusting thing that if he wasn't so old, I probably would have slapped him, but instead I just ran away! Ugh yuck!!!!!

So overall, it was a realllllly nice weekend! I hope I have more of these to come! Bonne nuit! Bisous Bisous! oxox :)
